Assistant documentation
Ask Playflow and MCP
Ask questions, preview permitted changes and keep control of your workspace.
One assistant, two ways to use it
Ask Playflow works inside the app. MCP connects a compatible client such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to the same tool registry and permission checks. Ask questions about your library, find transcript moments, review a period recap, or preview a permitted change. The assistant identifies itself as “I”.
Use the in-app panel or connect an MCP client. See the shipped tool inventory for the exact operations.
Plans and credits
| Plan | Questions | Changes | Monthly credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial | Questions | Read-only guidance | 50 |
| Harbor | Questions | Read-only guidance | 50 |
| Marina | Questions | Permitted changes | 500 |
| Fleet | Questions | Permitted changes | 2,000 |
One sent message in Ask Playflow uses one credit from the workspace it is about. In All workspaces, it uses the active workspace's credits. Previews, Confirm and Undo are free. MCP calls use no Playflow credits because your connected client runs its own model.
The allowance resets monthly on the date shown in the app. Purchased credits belong to the buying workspace, are used after its allowance, oldest first, and expire 12 months after purchase. Only Owners on paid Harbor, Marina or Fleet workspaces can buy packs. Trials upgrade instead. At zero credits, sending waits until the available-again date, unless an eligible Owner adds credits.
View credit balances in the panel or Settings, AI usage. Pack prices are on Pricing and Settings, Billing, never in the panel.
Your permissions apply
Reads may span accessible workspaces, with each item naming its workspace. Every change set targets exactly one workspace and checks that workspace's plan and your current role again. Trial and Harbor are read-only for changes. Viewers stay read-only on every plan. Team invitations require an Owner. A permitted Editor can change supported video appearance without gaining broad workspace-management access.
Read-only answers explain the steps and link to the right app page. Only Owners see upgrade links; other members are told to ask their workspace owner. Fleet does not show an upgrade prompt. Higher assistant access never grants an underlying feature your plan does not include.
What the assistant will never do
These actions are refused by the shipped registry, even for an administrator. The answer points to the appropriate app workflow instead.

Logging and Undo
Tool calls and their outcomes are logged server-side. Change previews show before and after values, the workspace and affected videos. Confirm is required to apply a preview, and a preview expires after 10 minutes. If the data changed, build a fresh preview rather than applying stale values.
After applying, Undo is available inline and in the panel toast for 10 minutes. Owners can also use Assistant activity for eligible settings changes for 7 days. Undo reverts the change set and lists any item that could not be restored. Some operations, such as an already delivered invitation, cannot undo the external effect.
Conversation history belongs to the user, is kept for 180 days and can be cleared with confirmation. Operator conversations are separate from tenant conversations.

Minimal embed
Load the embed script once per page and identify each video with its div's video ID. Use the documented embed modes and their attributes.
Player API
Control a ready player and subscribe to the protocol's events. Each player handle owns its listeners.
Player Appearance API
setAppearance, getAppearance and resetAppearance change or read page-local appearance, including independent centerPlaySize and centerReplaySize (8 to 40 percent of the shorter picture edge; unset retains the responsive default). appearancechange reports changes. The workspace switch Allow pages to restyle the player controls permission; disabled changes return appearance-disabled.
Interactivity
Marina and Fleet videos can publish Buttons, Hotspots and Play and Replay placements. Add actions to open a link, jump to a time, pause, tell the page or display only. Buttons require text; Convert to Hotspot preserves position, timing and action for invisible clickable areas. Buttons and optionally styled Hotspots share picture-relative Look and hover controls; colors support alpha opacity. Fit text to the button is off by default. Focus-visible adds a focus ring; touch ignores hover. Invalid fields disable Save and expose a jump-to-field explanation. Player API interaction events report what was shown, hidden or clicked; no customer JavaScript runs in the player.
Play and Replay controls and placements
On every plan choose auto, show, hide for Play and Replay in workspace or video settings; a video choice overrides its inherited workspace setting. Marina and Fleet can also publish timed picture-relative placements to show or hide the controls and adjust their position and size. Outside a timed placement the controls follow the effective workspace or video choice, which is not necessarily automatic. Page-local size keys: centerPlaySize, centerReplaySize.

Interactivity measurement
The video Analytics tab shows reached sessions, clicks, click rate, funnels and markers on the engagement curve. Detailed session measures follow the current plan's detailed-history window; daily totals remain available across the selected range.
Detailed analytics history
Detailed history follows the plan entitlement: Harbor 90 days, Marina 6 months, Fleet 12 months. Daily totals remain available across the selected range. Upgrades do not restore deleted events.
Replace video
Replace a video's media while retaining its links. Restore the previous version within 48 hours. Keep analytics or start fresh, and choose captions and chapters handling. Review the thumbnail after replacing media.
Version-split analytics
Analytics can be filtered by media version, including the Before <date> view for earlier events.
Brand color discovery
Signup and customization can suggest brand colors from the supplied website. Review and save the colors you want to use.
Starting quality and preload
Choose workspace Starting quality or a per-video override: Auto, Start at 360p, Start at 480p, Start at 720p, Start at 1080p, Start at 1440p, Start at 4K (2160p). Starts here, then adjusts to the viewer's connection like Auto. Embeds use data-start-quality; iframe/watch URLs use start_quality. Unset inherits. Only available source renditions can be selected; no upscaling. Data saver skips preloading.
Storage and quota
Storage includes reserved uploads and retained logical source charges. Deletion releases the charge and refreshes the indicator. Replacement changes the logical charge; retained restore originals are not charged again.
Team-managed billing
Some workspaces have billing managed by the Playflow team. Contact the team for billing changes when self-service is unavailable. Paid or unpaid access follows the saved billing authority, not merely the plan name.
Upload limits
The per-file upload limit and available workspace storage are separate checks. Reservations also consume available quota. Follow the specific limit message shown for the upload.
Per-video playback
Videos can override workspace playback defaults or return to inheritance.
Per-video identity
Videos can override workspace identity and logo settings or inherit the workspace defaults.
Per-video title
Title overlay controls support per-video choices and workspace inheritance.
Per-video starting quality
An explicit video starting-quality choice overrides the workspace value; inherited choices follow future workspace changes.
Password links
Password protection gates eligible shared playback. It does not make a private video publicly shareable.
Video editing
Edit video content using the shipped editor and wait for processing before the edited media is available.
Workspace export
Request a workspace export and download it when ready. Export access and download links remain scoped and time limited.
API keys
Create scoped workspace API keys for the documented v1 endpoints; keep credentials private and revoke unused keys.
Webhooks
Configure workspace webhook destinations and events, verify signatures, and inspect delivery outcomes. Consumers must tolerate retries.
Analytics
Explore engagement, traffic sources, geography, exports and media-version filters. Plays, loads and unique sessions are different metrics.
Captions
Upload or generate captions where entitled, edit the transcript and publish captions for playback.
Chapters
Create and edit chapters, including AI-assisted generation where entitled, and publish them for navigation.
Product glossary
- load
- An accepted player load session. A visit can be a load without becoming a play.
- play
- The first eligible play event, or a new play after an ended event. Replays after ended count; load-only visits do not.
- uniqueSession
- A playback session with at least one eligible play. Multiple plays or replays in that session still contribute one unique session.
- completion
- A play completes a threshold only when it both reaches that percentage and receives watch credit for at least half of that threshold. Supported thresholds are 50, 75, 90, and 100; a workspace's configured threshold is used unless a query supplies one.
- source.watch
- Playback on a Playflow-hosted watch page.
- source.embed
- Playback in an embedded player; reports may also identify the embed host.
- source.in-app
- Playback by a signed-in team member inside Playflow.
- source.api
- Playback attributed to an API integration.
- source.unknown
- Playback for which a more specific source was not retained or could not be established.
- includeTeam.false
- Exclude source=in-app. This is the default interpretation for viewer-facing analytics comparisons.
- includeTeam.true
- Include source=in-app alongside audience playback. It does not bypass workspace scope or identify viewers.
- mediaVersion
- The media file version associated with an analytics event.
- beforeDate
- The Before <date> view groups analytics for earlier media history.
- inherited
- A video follows its workspace setting until an explicit per-video override is saved.
- reservedStorage
- Quota held for an upload that has not yet settled; settlement is not a refund of completed media storage.
- button
- A text-labelled interactive item placed on the video picture, available where the Interactivity plan entitlement permits it.
- hotspot
- A clickable area on the video picture; its marker can be shown or hidden. Its optional Look is transparent by default, with no border until hover adds a 2px border in the workspace accent at 60% opacity. It shares picture-relative styling and hover controls with Buttons.
- playAndReplayPlacement
- Every plan can choose auto, show, hide for Play and Replay in workspace or video settings. On Marina and Fleet, timed picture-relative placements can show or hide the controls; outside the placement, inherited workspace or explicit video choices apply (not necessarily automatic). centerPlaySize and centerReplaySize control page-local sizes when permitted.
- interactivityMeasurement
- Reached sessions, clicks, click rate, funnels and engagement-curve markers for published interactive items. The plan's detailed-history window limits retained session detail.
- analyticsHistory
- Detailed analytics history by plan: Harbor 90 days, Marina 6 months, Fleet 12 months; daily totals stay available.
